Disney On Ice: Magical Ice Festival and Why You Should Go

On the night of a Friday, the Singapore Indoor Stadium was filled with lots of people.  Adults and children.  Princes and princesses.  All ready to catch the Disney Magic.

Disney On Ice returns this year with the theme, Magical Ice Festival.

Reasons why you should watch Disney On Ice: Magical Ice Festival:

1.  Debunking talks that Disney On Ice is only for children, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  The adults sitting beside me (with no children) were also clapping and getting all excited throughout the show.  It was a lovely performance by the ice-skaters.  Akin to figure skating, it is indeed a visual spectacle.

2.  The show is a very good recap of all the 4 movies.  So, if you wish to be transported back to the times of watching those movies, this is it.  The significant parts, the famous songs.  One is sure to have flashes of the 4 movies.  But if you think you have not watched of the movies before, this is one that summarises all 4 of them into one 2-hour performance.

3.  If you have children, regardless boys or girls, they will love it.  The Disney magic is not known for nothing.  I see children engrossed with the performance, singing and some dancing.  Most of the songs are pretty well-known and we always hear the children singing out loud.  It is a moment when children can just be themselves and not be scrutinised by surrounding people for belting out loud those Disney medleys.

4.  Be thrilled by the well-timed pyrotechnics.  Need I say more?

Let us now take a look at some of what to expect at the show.

What's a performance without popcorn and candy floss, all in those I-want-to-bring-all-home containers and ware.  But be warned, they do not come cheap.  :D

Disney On Ice started with a bang with the likes of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy, introducing the different acts.

For a start, The Little Mermaid got us into the groove with songs like "Under the Sea".  A visual performance of the sea creatures, E was telling me the sea creatures he saw...

Can you tell who's next from the below silhouette?

Skaters performing as Maximus, the palace horse from the Disney movie Tangled impresses me.  How do two persons skate at the same time, especially with the back person's view compromised?

I have a love for Beauty and the Beast.  Do you?

It's always a joy to see performers getting into the act, laughing, smiling, singing and dancing.

Each time the curtain draws, we are surprised.  The last act, which is the special appearances by characters of Frozen, literally made the audience go crazy.  That is how much Frozen is well loved by everyone, big or small.

Olaf is here too!!!  Songs like 'For the First Time' and 'Let It Go' shook the whole place.

I love watching the moves by these characters.  They skate with such professionalism and grace, it makes me and maybe every little girl dream to be an ice-skater.

Lovely and cool isn't it?  I asked D.  If you have bought the Magic Moments tickets, there is a chance to get up close to the characters at the end of the show.

Ending on 20 March 2016, the last 2 shows will be at 11am and 3pm show.  If you have not bought any tickets, it is still available for purchase online at Sports Hub Tix.

Watching a 7pm show and reaching home not that early, I can only say, "Some things are worth losing sleep "for"".  :)

Disney On Ice Presents Magical Ice Festival

We have been to one Disney On Ice when D was about 3 years old and E barely one.  A family of Disney fans, we have our own likes and favourites.  What impresses all of us is that in Disney On Ice, the characters skate!!  On Ice!!!

How cool is that?!

This year's theme, Magical Ice Festival, takes you on a sensational journey with your most loved Disney characters on ice.  Join Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel and not forgetting characters of the Academy Award winning and Number One Animated Feature Film of all time - Disney's Frozen in this winsome wonderland that is set to bring you on a magical journey.

Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite.  Do you know what Beast gave to Belle to always remember him by?

A magic mirror!

And do you know how many sisters does Ariel from The Little Mermaid have?

Six.  Do you know their names?

I know of quite a few Rapunzel fans.  If you are one, you will be thrilled to know that Rapunzel will be one of the princesses appearing in Magical Ice Festival!  Do you happen to know the weapon that Rapunzel use against Flynn when he climbs into the tower?  It's a flying pan!

With an extraordinary line-up of hit songs and most importantly, the never-before-seen characters, here are ten magical moments behind Disney On Ice to get you all excited for the show:
  1. Disney On Ice was founded in 1981 and has since travelled to over 75 countries and 6 continents
  2. The average size of the ice skating surface is 42m x 21m
  3. There are approximately 180 costumes presented at one Disney On Ice show
  4. More than 100 people work on these costumes
  5. It takes 18 trucks to transport all production equipment for set-up
  6. It takes between 12 - 15 hours to set up one Disney On Ice show
  7. But just about 4 hours to tear down the entire production
  8. Over 80 different colours of paint are used on the 183 props for this production
  9. The youngest performer on this year's show is 19 years old and the oldest is 44 years old.
  10. Each performer may change up to 8 costumes in one show
You have no idea about those 10 points right?  Neither do I!  But now we know~~~

If you are still thinking of what to do during the March 2016 school holidays, why not bring the children to Disney On Ice and be enchanted by a production that will leave both children and adults of all ages in awe.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens at VivoCity

{Media Invite}

Excited, we are.

Especially when it involves Lego and Star Wars.  From now till 20 December 2015, catch a glimpse of the Ultimate Millennium Falcon crafted by six adult fans of Lego from Titan Creations, the 6.2 by 2.4 metres mural made of Lego bricks and of course, the ten life-sized Stormtroopers at VivoCity Atrium.  Entrance is free!

Let the photos do the "talking"!

Each of us manage to help complete a tiny weeny part of the largest wall mural made of Lego bricks. This wall mural sets a new record in the Singapore Book of Records!  Come, take a photo with it!

Ever ready to take a photo with us.  Happy, we were.

Lots of exhibits and photo opportunities.

A Lego x Star Wars fan should not and must not miss this!  Larger than the Lego-produced UCS Millennium Falcon, this "My Own Creation" measures 110cm by 85cm.  Also, spot and guess why Han Solo is seated on the right side of the cockpit, instead of the usual left.  We know.  Do you?

The Electronic Arts Star Wars Battlefront will be a hit with children and teenagers.  Adults too, I'm sure!

Looking at these makes me feel like collecting all of them!  Haha!

Lots of Star Wars merchandise available for everyone to purchase.  You know where to go if you are buying a Christmas present for a Star Wars fan.

Apart from this 360 square metre exhibition, VivoCity also brings you the 107 ft Christmas tree at the Sky Park on Level 3.  From now till 25 Dec 15 at 7.30pm, 8.30pm (except 24 Dec 15) and 9.30pm, be enchanted by the pulsing light show choreographed to a medley of thematic songs.

And this, will probably be why you are spending that much in VivoCity.  :)  May the Force be with you!

Mickey & Friends Sent D a Postcard! Really!

I just got to post this.

Sometime ago, D learnt about letter writing in one of his class at The Language Boutique.  He made use of what he had learnt and wrote a letter to his favourite pal, his favourite character in Disney - Mickey Mouse.

About 2 months later, we received a postcard from Mickey and friends!  How cool is that!

I was totally surprised too as I am not quite sure if they will reply.  Though it may not be customised, imagine the smiles when D saw his name on the postcard.

This is indeed the Disney Magic.  No wonder everyone adores them.

Mummies and Daddies, I am really unsure if the reply postcard is always the same but just in case it is, please refrain from showing your child(ren) this so that it will be a surprise for them when they receive one after writing to them!

10 + 2 Tips on How to Enjoy Hong Kong Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland - the Happiest Place on Earth should be enjoyed, right?

1.  Buy a 2-day pass, especially if you and / or the children are Disney fans.  It makes the discovery less rush and I enjoyed every bit of the 2-day pass.

2.  Weather is ever changing now.  Dress according to the weather.  We were there in November last year which was supposed to be turning slightly chilly.  However, it was still pretty hot during the day.

3.  There are 2 shows that are must-watch - Festival of the Lion King and The Golden Mickeys Presented in Disney's Storybook Theatre.  Please make time for both of them.

4.  We were there for the whole day on the first day.  Knowing the boys will whine and complain, we rented strollers.  We did not want to spoil our day at Disneyland knowing that they will complain of being tired and neither do we want to carry them.

5.  If you like taking photos with the Disney characters, I am sure buying the Disney PhotoPass card will be a great investment.  We bought the PhotoPass Plus with all digital downloads in a day for HKD398.  Note that if you are there for 2 days, remember to buy one each day as photos stored in the PhotoPass card is only valid on the day the photo is taken.

We had lots of fun photo-taking with Mickey Mouse and gang!

6.  Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck and some others will appear at the Fantasy Gardens all at one time at certain timings.  Thus, if you are a real fan, remember to check the timings and  be there to catch them!

7.  The Disney Characters are a very friendly bunch!  They interact with almost everyone who queued to capture a photo or 2 with them.  So, please be nice.  Do not rush, do not try to jump the queue, do not complain.  You will get your chance too and it will be a pleasant experience for everyone.

For the kids, this is just so real and just so awesome.  To be able to see their favourite characters come alive and interact with them.  Be it just a couple of minutes.

8.  Spend time in the shops.  Sometimes it's in these places you see one of the happiest faces, whether an item is bought or not.

9.  Did you spot something on E's tee?

If you or your child(ren) like stickers, you will be delighted to know that the cast members in Hong Kong Disneyland hands out stickers when approached.  Everyone holds different characters, some are common, some aren't.  Thus, for outspoken kids out there, go ask for one but be courteous, okay?!

10.  There are many attractions in the Park.  One of the rides which is all ages friendly and definitely my to go in every Disneyland I have been to is "It's a Small World".  Children will enjoy the ride and everyone will come out humming the song happily.  Try it and tell me if you feel so too.

11.  Food is not cheap in Disneyland.  It is all the same with any theme parks around the world.  The consolation - they are cute.  If you have a Magic Access card, remember to use it as you get discounts!

12.  Parades and fireworks!  There are two parades everyday, I think.  Be there to watch for the atmosphere is really good.  I told B when we were watching that no doubt it's the Happiest Place on Earth.  The songs, the performers' smiles, the dances and the floats - it makes everything all so exciting and simply put, happy.

Personally, I like the Night Parade at 7.45pm.  It is just so magical.  Don't miss it if you can!

This is It!  Just relax, enjoy the time at Hong Kong Disneyland and be like a kid once more.
