One-for-One Main Course at Morganfield's with the Entertainer App

We do dine out quite a bit.  On weekends usually.  With family and friends.  And with the year-end festivities coming, it meant more gatherings and more dining out.

We were introduced to the Entertainer App, which, many of our friends did not know about.  We did not know much about it too initially but realised so many of the F&B merchants that we love and / or going to try in their merchant partner listing.

The Entertainer is in fact a leading provider of buy-one-get-one-free incentives across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe and is full of offers for restaurants, beauty salons, health & fitness, leisure activities etc.

Find it on the App Store, Google Play and Samsung Apps

One of the F&B merchant offering one-for-one main courses at their Star Vista and Suntec City outlets is Morganfield's - the place for good old fashioned, prime pork ribs slowed-cooked and smoked to tender mouth-watering perfection.

Called "Sticky Bones", their signature dishes of smoked ribs is sure to blow one away.  Both by it's size and tenderness.  A full slab ribs is definitely good for 2 persons (no kidding) and if you prefer something spicier, there is always the Spicy Asian BBQ Spare Ribs or the maybe the Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs.  I like the basic Hickory BBQ Sticky Bones.

Full Slab - Hickory BBQ Sticky Bones

I think my younger son can finish this Crayfish Mac & Cheese on his own.  Yup, it's good.  Creamy and delicious.

By becoming a member for S$85, I believe I would have easily saved half of that price paid in 1 meal just at Morganfield's.

If you think Morganfield's is only good with their ribs, the above Mac & Cheese and this Beer Battered Fish & Chips will prove you wrong.  Simple, non-pretentious, crispy fish & chips fried to a nice golden brown.

If burgers are your loves, here are 2 of the few options:  Smokehouse Bacon Cheeseburger and Chicken BLT.

Though desserts are not in the one-for-one offers for Morganfield's, do try their Chocolate Lava Cake and end a good meal with a happy tummy.

F&B merchants aside, I saw quite a few beauty and fitness merchants that I am very interested in : BBounce Studio, AsterSpring and how can I forget recreational attractions and leisure for children like Bounce Singapore and Kaboodle Kids.

If you would like to download the Entertainer App and give it a try for 2016, be sure to use the promo code SGBLOG2016 as it gives a S$10 off the retail price of the app.

Disclosure:  We were invited to the food tasting at Morganfield's by the Entertainer Singapore.  No monetary compensation was received.  All photographs, unless otherwise stated, and opinions are true to my own.

Of Ship and Garden ~ Where We Ate in Penang

We went Penang last November and if you remembered, we stayed at Golden Sands Resort, Penang.  Our reviews about that resort here!

Penang is a foodie place.  We know that.

With 2 children, we decided to skip the zhi char type of seafood this time, skipped some Penang favourites (B and I were saying we will explore that on our own, one day.  One day.) and went to 2 different restaurants for 2 of our nights there.

Located in Batu Ferringhi, walking distance from Golden Sands Resort, we had an early Thanksgiving dinner at The Ship.

Doesn't it look like the real thing?  The boys were amused!

The service staff are dressed as ship crew, in maritime uniforms.

The Ship can also be found in Kuala Lumpur but I am unsure if it is just with a shop front or like this, the big ship.

The Thanksgiving set dinner seems to be pretty reasonable.  For RM85, it is about SGD30 for a 4 course dinner.  And a hand towel as a gift.

This boy stole my soup and bread.

The escargots which were pretty well done up.  And they bothered with the appropriate cutleries.  Some places cannot be bothered.

Food wise, it was pretty decent.  The boys had spaghetti which they so much prefer over any other seafood fare from a seafood restaurant.  Considering how hot Penang is always, an air-conditioned restaurant is what we look for when we have kids in tow after a long day out - we were at Escape that day which is a post for another day.

For that price, I thought it was not too expensive.  Of course, by Malaysian standards, it would have been too much.  But for some good protein, comfortable seating areas and something different (the ship as a restaurant), I am good.

The Ship
Address: 69-B Jalan Batu Ferringhi, 11100 Penang
Tel: +604 881 2142
Opening hours: 12pm to 1am

This second place we went to was a recommendation.  I was told that the ambience will be totally different and true enough, I was surprised.

The entrance of Ferringhi Garden Restaurant does not show any of what I am going to show you.  So, one will probably walk pass it and dismiss it as just another restaurant along Batu Ferringhi.

As it was near Christmas, Christmas decorations were everywhere!  I mean, wow!!!  Orangey and dim lights, my photos do not do justice to the decorations.  You got to see it for yourself.

Children are welcome, obviously.  :)

We had their Signature Seafood Platter.

Some photos before the night darkens.  Full of greenery, flowers everywhere.  It looks as if we were transported to some gardens.

Our food for the night.  The seafood platter proved to be more than enough for 3 adults.

Cannot help but LOL at this photo of D "fighting" the lobster.

Having read mixed reviews about this place, I went with a "no expectations, no disappointment" kind of attitude.  Price wise, it was not cheap.  Food wise, it was acceptable, quality is okay.  Nothing to blow me away, but will not stop me from going back there.  The reason why I will be back - the place itself.  The ambience and the lovely surroundings.

So, if you are near there one day, check out that place.  And take lots of photos!!!!

Birthday Staycation / Getaway at Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor

How often do we get two birthdays over the weekend.  One on a Friday and one on a Sunday?  Of course, it is a good time to take a day's leave and declare a long weekend, right?

And we just had to leave Singapore.  Why?

We had been intending to bring the boys for a staycation.
We had been intending to bring the boys to Legoland Malaysia for their Halloween activities.

Often, when we were at Legoland Malaysia, we will leave by the late afternoon to prevent being stuck at the jam near the customs.  We had been thinking to stay at hotels surrounding there or even in the Johor Bahru city area but safety is always our concern.  With reports about car thefts, especially Singapore cars, in the last months, we, like many others, were apprehensive.  Interestingly, when I wrote to hotels with simple questions regarding the level of security in the respective hotels, only one replied.  That is Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor.

And so off we went...  And we parked our car at the hotel basement (not in the open space).

Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor is located in the special economic zone of Iskandar Malaysia, at the Puteri Harbour waterfront in the Nusajaya Zone.  A 15-minute drive from the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link, it is within close proximity to the theme parks and attractions, the major draw for families and young-at-heart.

The hotel lobby.  When we first arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at the vast area with plenty seating.  Check-in was fuss-free - the usual submission of passports and sign-offs.

Lovely surprise in our Deluxe Harbour View Room.  Little touches that guests are often happy with.

Hello, my two birthday boys!  Chocolate cakes seem to always be a hit, don't ask me why.

The second thing they did when they went into the room, after going wow with the cake and balloons.  This is a sofa that can be converted to a bed.  How nice to wake up to a harbour view every morning.

The view the boys were looking at.  It was a pity that there was a slight haze that weekend, although much better than that of Singapore at that point in time.

Our room for the 2 nights.  The boys can't be more pleased than having a big television right in front of the bed.

This, is what the man loves.  The secret to a good quality shower is the ideal water pressure.  It is just great regardless if it is from the rain shower or from the shower head.

Oh, and did I mention the hotel provides cute little bedroom slippers?

If you do not wish to venture out of the hotel, there are actually many things one can do.

I love to laze around by the pool, sipping a drink~~~ do, you?

I will definitely be here if I am on a couple trip.  :P  Different to-dos with different people.  :D  And oh... to the massage too (it's actually quite reasonable, especially when they have promotions!)

The boys love the pool.  There are a total of 3 different pools at the hotel.  An infinity pool with a depth of 1.2m, a jacuzzi pool and a kid's pool.

I do not know what they were talking about over there.  But this photo, is love.

 My time at the jacuzzi!

The older one trying to teach the younger one how to swim.  It always start off with "E, I teach you how to swim, okay?"   :D

Dinner time at Harbour Café, an all day dining outlet.  It is seafood night on every Friday and Saturday.

No raw oysters but for RM126 net per adult, I think the spread is pretty good.

I do not see many buffets serving hotate  (aka scallop) sashimi

The best of both worlds~~~

May I have all that's in there?
Fast, free WiFi is available everywhere in the hotel.  No crappy signals, alright?  And this amuses me...  chargers available almost every corner should one require a charge for their mobile phones / tablets - under lock and key.

And a soak in the tub for the children before a good night sleep.

I wanted to hit the gym in the morning!  But the bed and sleep got the better of me.  The good thing about driving in is... I can leave the running shoes in the car and not cause excess baggage.

Can you carry all of them?!
Breakfast at the same Harbour Café is a delightful spread.  From the Malay-style Nasi Lemak to Chinese porridge, freshly cooked omelettes to pancakes, cold juices to hot Cappuccino, we tried almost everything during the two mornings.

D's kind of breakfast - the first round.  Apart from the honey stars, it's pretty healthy, isn't it?

Finally tall and old enough to take his own juice.

Bittergourd juice?!  Seriously?!

Made in France jam.
During the stay, we were very honoured to meet Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour, Johor's General Manager, Mr. Sigi Bierbaumer in person.  He explained to us the security in the hotel and that the hotel emphasises a lot on safety.  The hotel has a team of experience and fully trained security officers backed by surveillance equipment to provide a safe environment for everyone.  In addition, Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour is a five-minute drive to the Tourist Police Base.  Information can be found here and here too.

It is always sad to say goodbye to a shiok shiok stay.  If we ever want a stay across the Causeway, Hotel Jen, Puteri Harbour, Johor will definitely be one of our choice.  No other hotel, for now, can impress me with their safety and security measures.

So if you are thinking of a staycation / getaway across the Causeway that will not burn a big hole in the pockets, check out Hotel Jen, Puteri Harbour's offers here.
