Cold Storage Kids Run 2017

The family loves going for family runs.  Since a baby in the stroller, B and I brought them out for family runs often.  Then, the number of family runs were not as many as what we have today.

One of the runs that have been around since we started our family runs is the Cold Storage Kids Run. At it's 10th edition this year, the crowd was massive!  It is heartening to see both the young and the old coming together for a great morning workout.  Be it a walk or a run, it is definitely both a healthy lifestyle and a great bonding time together.  What can be better than this?!

Who doesn't like rewards?  A medal to encourage the next run, to prove an achievement and a reminder that we reap what we sow.

The Kids Run is a very family oriented run.  With children in mind, there are lots of activities for the children.  Even milk is free for the keen little ones.

The run was carried out in different waves - one for each age group.  The good of it being that similar ages, similar capability and thus, probably easier to run.  The bad?  B had to run with E and D with me as we fall under 2 different categories.  So it was not exactly a family run.

This run, D was tripped over by another kid and fell.  Instead of whining, he picked himself up and ran again.  Sometimes, kids show us the resilience we thought they do not have.  And I am guilty of that.

End of the day, though we were all sweaty and smelly, we thought we had much fun.  A good workout too.  We definitely welcome more family runs.  Of course, I am sure if the runs are priced reasonably, many will be interested too.

Disclosure: We were invited to the event.  No monetary compensation was received.  All photos and opinions are true to my own unless otherwise stated.

YOLO Run

YOLO - You Only Live Once.

YOLO Run is back this year.  Bigger and faster after the success of its official launch last year.  Starting at Gardens by the Bay (East) on 22 October 2016, 8am to 12pm, there will be 2 race categories - 5km and 10km.

If there is anything about this run I look forward to, it will have to be running shirtless for a good cause.  Seriously, I am unsure if I am able to do it although I am thinking of it because this year, X-Change Republic Pte Ltd has partnered with Breast Reconstruction Awareness Singapore (BRAS), a non-profit organisation, to create a better and wider understanding of reconstruction choices and resources.  For every participant who runs shirtless on the race day, a sports bra will be donated to BRAS, an essential in the recovery process of patients.

Who is keen to do that with me?!

If you are, use the promotion code YOLOXCYNTHIA and get a 10% off the race fees.

Your race entitlements, depending on men's or ladies' when you sign up.

Come on, join me on a Saturday morning for a run along one of Singapore's prettiest are, Gardens by the Bay.

Disclosure:  I received 2 complimentary tickets to the run.  Terms and product information about the product were provided by X-Change Republic.

First SpongeBob Run in Asia!

The famous SpongeBob is going to be in Singapore in August for the very first run and it is going to happen in Sentosa!

Happening on 6 August 2016 between 4-8pm, join Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants in searching for his best friend, Patrick Star, via a fun run.  Covering 5km, it is going to be a route of iconic landmarks from the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, including the houses that SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward Tentacles live in.

What is more fun than joining a theme run - something that children can look forward to while being active.  And along the way, there is a high possibility to snap selfies or wefies with Spongebob and his friends in life-size cutout boards.

After the race, join us at the carnival that will be filled with nautical-themed activities, food and beverages and of course, the screening of three episodes of Spongebob SquarePants, no matter if you are a fan or not.

Registration has started and you may register at Spongebob Run Singapore 2016 website here

And just for you, my readers, get S$5 off when you register with the code SBXCYNTHIA so hurry and not miss this promo as it ends 26 June 2016 23.59 hours.

If you are wondering what will be available, there are two categories of race entitlement packs:
- For BASIC (S$49.50 per pax), there will be an official event tee, an event medal and a runner's license.
- For NORMAL (S$59.50 per pax), there will also be an exclusive SpongeBob Run Singapore plush and drawstring bag, in addition to receiving the items in the Basic pack.

So, if you like plushs like my boys and I, go for the NORMAL category!

This medal is just too cute!
Disclosure:  We will be receiving 2 complimentary tickets to the run and purchasing 2 more so that the whole family will have fun.  Terms and product information about the product were provided by X-Change Republic.

The Inaugural Stroller Race Singapore 2016

The inaugural Stroller Race Singapore 2016 was held on 17 January 2016 at the Sports Hub.

We did not participate in the family run this time but instead, the boys took part in the Kids Dash.  There were 4 different categories: Stroller Run 5km, Stroller Walk 5km, Family Run 5km and Kids Dash for 5 different age groups.

The Stroller Race Singapore is a community event that allows families to participate in races together, and to lead active lives as a family unit.  The Stroller Race seeks to build an exciting event that almost all families with young children will be able to attend - even for those using strollers, prams and pushchairs.

With children as the main focus of the race, there were lots of activities for the kids.

Starting with some activities at the Sports Hub Library, which was a surprise as most libraries should be hush hush hush....

Getting into the mood and prepping for the real dash.  :)

This has got to be the most enjoyable of all the games.  Such that even E wanted to join in.  Trying to pull off one another's 3 "tails".

The Kids Dash was at the Stadium.  Or rather the outside the stadium near the entrances.  Most kids love a tattoo and these tattoos are really long lasting.

I really really like the way the warm ups were conducted.  Different category age groups were separated at different areas around the stadium.  And for D's and E's, they had their warm ups done interestingly!

Some examples were running under the big colourful "parachute" and stretching and moving the limbs using the almost-every-kid-will-know song "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round".    I mean, it does not even seem to be warm-ups!

One parent may run with each child.  And each time, there were only like 8-10 children running with their parents beside or behind them.  Look at E's expression!

A milestone for D!  Running 60m on his own.  I asked if he needed me to go with him and he told me that he could do it himself.  My little boy is growing up!  There were no timings, no competition.  Just pure running fun for the children.  All races were cheered and clapped and each child was given a medal at the end of their race.

For the older children, they ran between 400m to 800m.  And I see organisers / volunteers running alongside with the children, and the last one was not left alone which was good.

My 2 happy boys  Pleased with the medals they obtain.  A race, especially planned for the little ones, I am looking forward to the next Stroller Race!

Disclosure: We were invited to the Stroller Race Singapore 2016.  No monetary compensation was received.  All photographs and opinions are true to my own.

#Throwback - Great Eastern Women's Run 2015

As we soon wrap up 2015, here is one throwback that is part of my resolution for 2015 which was to exercise more.  Also another resolution in 2016...  One of yours too?

Up early one Sunday morning in November, I joined the other 17,000 participants in the Great Eastern Women's Run that was held annually.  An event that is dedicated to helping everyone live healthier and better, it is Asia's largest all-women race.

2015 also marks Great Eastern’s 10th year of unifying women in health and life.  And with that, the event was held on a bigger scale, with three race categories of 5km Fun Run, 10km and 21.1km.

The last GE run in 2012, I ran 5km with a friend.  This year, I ran 5km too.  And something special this year was that I donned the tu-tu while running!

In a myriad of hues of pink, blue, yellow and purple in support of three women and children-related charities - Breast Cancer Foundation, Community Chest (Children with Special Needs) and SingHealth Duke-NUS OBGYN Academic Clinical Program, many participants ran with their tu-tus on.

Finishing in an official time of 26 minutes, it does not seem very satisfactory.  I know I should not compare myself to days when I have been more active.  Hopefully this will spur me to achieve a better result next year.  I love running in the morning and the lovely part was running on a route that brings us around the areas less ventured to on our own.  It was not too hot and humid and the sky was clear, what a perfect time for taking photographs of some of the nicest buildings in Singapore.

Together with some of the Mom Bloggers, another achievement unlocked!

DC Justice League Run 2015 - Achievement Unlocked!

The inaugural DC Justice League Run 2015 was held on Sunday 30 August 2015 at Sentosa.  The boys have been pretty crazy over the DC Comics Super Heroes and each of them has a preference.

E is a Green Lantern fan.  Do not ask me why but if you have realized, he has his customized (by his Daddy dearest) Green Lantern ring which he is so proud of.

D is part of the Team Batman.  Not as dramatic as his brother, he does not go around showing his mask or stunts and you wonder who he actually is if not for the race bib.

Every adult is entitled a running singlet depending on which team he / she is representing.  There is the Team Superman, Team Batman, Team Wonder Woman, Team Green Lantern and Team Flash.  Each tee is unique and after seeing people with the Superman running singlet, I thought that looks nice.  Haha… Yes, I am fickle.  :)

Children registered are entitled to a T-shirt showing all the Super Heroes.  At least I do not have to deal with changes and the I-think-that-looks-nicer debates.

The route for the 5 KM run from almost one end to the other of Sentosa.  Lots of photo-taking opportunities.  I think many actually came to take photos as well since flashing the race bib entitles you free entry to Sentosa (not bad, right?).  Seriously, how often does one visit Sentosa?

I was really impressed by those who dressed up!  Wearing the Super Heroes costume (not the running singlet) and the gears, they walked or ran along with us.  I think those who bothered to dress up should be given a special certificate or gift - just for their efforts.

The slopes were the most challenging.  But that's where the trails are and in fact, the coolest part of the route due to the trees and plants.

First achievement unlocked - I carried E 80% of the 5km.  We decided to leave the stroller at home and tried making him walk but I guess, I failed 80%.  Haha.  For all the past runs, we brought the stroller because we know he will not be able to complete the full run all by himself but yet we do not want to carry him.  If you think why bring strollers or why join runs then?  Because we wanted him to be part of our running / walking group.  Having a baby does not equate to giving up fun runs and races.

You know why the baby is not being carried?  Because of Green Lantern lah!

The best achievement unlocked - D completed his full 5km, walking and running all the way by himself!  No carrying!  He walked, complained when going up the slopes, but continued trooping on.

Carnival activities at the end of the race.  Look at that happy face on the trampoline!

Not a very happy Super Hero.  A very tired and sweaty Super Hero in fact.  LOL

Nobody wants a photo with me.  Got to take with Green Lantern on my own.

Always remember to do some cool-down stretches after each workout.  There are lots of benefits of cool-down stretches but it is something that many forget.

Did we enjoy the run?  Of course!  Sometimes we complain about having to carry the children while walking, sometimes we grow tired of asking them to be faster.  But those are often forgotten once we reach the Finish line.  We remember the good - that we finish the run as a family.  Away from the gadgets, looking at the participants and surroundings and keeping fit at the same time.

Maybe, I will bring the stroller for the younger one till he turns 6 years old.

Check out DC Justice League Run on Facebook and be kept updated on future runs.
