{Review} The Ant and the Grasshopper by I Theatre

Time flies and we are now in the second month of 2017.  And what a good month to watch a production that touches on morals, friendship and life!

I Theatre starts the year with a classic Fable from Aesop - The Ant and the Grasshopper.  Returning after a sell-out run in 2014, the children were kept entertained throughout this 50-minutes musical.

It speaks of a hardworking and forever busy Ant, who never seemed to have time for play or relaxation.  It is also about this Grasshopper, who has all the time on his hands and nothing to do all day.

All day long, the Ant would work hard, without stop or rest, collecting food to store for the winter.  The Grasshopper would always laugh at her and ask why she works so hard.  That she should rest as the winter is still far away.

The Ant never listened.

The different seasons pass and it is evident from the props used.  I am really pleased with the props used in this production as it is so easy to point them out to the children, showing them the 4 different seasons especially since Singapore is forever sunny with no distinct seasons.

Every insect was prepared for the winter, except the Grasshopper.  When winter came, the Grasshopper found itself with no food, no shelter.  Do you think the Ant will help?

A story about friendship, it is also about the phrase "there is a time for work, and there is a time for play".  Always be prepared for the future, we shall.

I Theatre always ensure audience participation.  Remember to participate and "stretch and twist, stretch and swing, step and jump and hop".  :)
